Searching the World Wide Web
The World Wide Web (Internet) provides access to billions of items of information, covering every conceivable subject. To help find the information you want there are a number of "Search Engines" which ask you to type in what you want to know, then search for information on that subject and show you what they have found.

The search engines present a blank box into which you type a word or phrase. The engine then provides you with links to web-sites that are likely to provide information on this subject.
The search engine usually tells you how many web pages it has found which mention the subject. You may then click on the link to any of these pages to see the information it contains.
Sometimes there are many thousands of pages and it may be necessary to do an "advanced search" or to "search within results". Both of these involve adding more details of what you are searching for. |
